Mardi Gras SEO Project
After interning at NOLA.com in the summer of 2022, they asked me to do a freelance project for them over my winter break. My project revolved around packaging and optimizing all of their old, evergreen Mardi Gras coverage for search and building splash pages for each day of parades.
I started by researching keywords and phrases that both seasoned Mardi Gras goers and newcomers use when searching for information about Mardi Gras. I then laid out and strategized the use of these search terms in our coverage.

The project building started with digging through the CMS to find all the old Mardi Gras stories. I found over 100 and ended up optimizing and packaging over 70. This included adding photos and hyperlinks, editing SEO headlines and URLs, formatting stories to present across mediums and building utility content packages for Mardi Gras first-timers.
I also strategized and created landing pages around common content themes. For example, we had six evergreen stories about King Cake, so I designed a page that packaged all of those stories together. We had the same for FAQs, transportation, attire, eating & drinking, krewes, family-friendly Carnival, and Mardi Gras history.
I also created a page for each day of Mardi Grad parades that had the live parade cam, information about the krewes rolling that day, parade routes, and more.
